Logging of endemic precious wood – rosewood, palisandre and ebony – has been flourishing more than ever this year due to the political crisis. "Logging of precious wood can have severe impacts on both the forest and indigenous peoples," anticipated Erik R. Patel of Cornell University, USA, in December 2007.

Le trafic de bois précieux endémiques n’a jamais été aussi florissant que cette année à cause de la crise politique. « (…) les exploitations illicites de bois précieux pourraient (…) produire des effets néfastes autant pour les forêts que pour les communautés de base », a anticipé Erik R. Patel de l’université de Cornell, Etats-Unis, en décembre 2007.

Impacts of climate change are real in PNG as we have seen in recent times that, there has been a rise in sea levels covering the atolls near Bougainville and Siassi island; habitat loss for plant and animal species near Sepik river; and sea level rise covering coastal parts of Wewak and New Ireland.
