Climate change has really affected the Karamoja region

Climate change has really affected the Karamoja region in that it has led to more loss of animals and people in the region.

Karamojongs are pastoralists in nature therefore depend mainly on animals and some growth of drought resistant crops for survival. Of recent the climate change has affected the grazing lands, usually Karamoja though a semi-arid area has two seasons in a year that’s, the dry season and wet season but now the dry season is much longer than the wet season meaning more drought in a year. In order to enable the survival of the animals, the karamojong try to move to the greener parts of the country though this is difficult since everyone believes the karamojong are trouble makers, hence in most case the animals are left to die and as a result, the people die too.

When the rains fall too, there is flooding which leads to destruction of property including human beings and there is a high spread of diseases such as cholera. Karamoja has seasonal rivers therefore these too raise above the normal level due to floods swiping away property and human beings.

I conclude by saying that, climate change is an issue that must be solved before the world is left bare.
