Closing the Gaps: Disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change in developing countries
Submitted by on Mon, 17/08/2009 - 11:35.The international Commission on Climate Change and Development launched its final report on 14 May 2009 at the United Nations, with the participation of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The work of the Commission has focused on adaptation to climate change and disaster risk reduction. The report, Closing the Gaps, offers recommendations to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable countries and communities.

Submitted by on Thu, 07/05/2009 - 16:01.Thanks very much for your message, which gives a good idea of the practical challenges that need to be overcome on the ground to implement mechanisms to reduce deforestation. We fully agree with Joseph Itongwa from the Shirika La Bambuti organization on the fact that while indigenous peoples are rarely if ever responsible for large-scale deforestation, they are nevertheless the ones who suffer from it the most.
