An ecological tragedy has been happening in Madagascar since January arousing a great number of reactions at national and international level. Logging of endemic precious wood – rosewood, palisandre and ebony – has been flourishing more than ever this year due to the political crisis. "Logging of precious wood can have severe impacts on both the forest and indigenous peoples," anticipated Erik R. Patel of Cornell University, USA, in December 2007.

Alas. I am a sceptic waiting for the evidence of rising sea-levels. I regularly ask those in positions of authority how much sea-level has risen in the last decade. They never answer.

I have read a masterly study on sea-level changes in the Maldives. It does not suggest that they are in serious trouble. In fact business is as usual.

So you see my problem.

Most huge countries are not concerned with the tiny little nations like ours, The Maldives. Its totally unpredictable how the climate had become. Our grand parents as they tell us, they used to go fishing with no technical items (such as radars, compases, GPS, or any other navigational equipements), but they would safely reach their destination with no question at all. They used to have their own calendar which demonstrates how seasonal changes were observed through out the year. It still exists today, but doesn't provide any use. There was no record of any Tsunami.

Thank you for the newsletter i am very concern about the subject of climate change since i live on a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean called Praslin. The island is
11 km long and 4 km wide with a population of around 7500 Praslinios and around 20 % tourist at any given point in time.
