I am from Papua New Guinea and currently we are working on climate change campaign. It would be good to network and share information on climate change.

Our Climate Campaign, Ms. Ruth Pune will provide you all the information on the campaign. We just ran a workshop on climate change here and it was well attended and covered by the media. We want to run another workshop for media so that maybe something you might be interested. We plan to organise a regional workshop on climate change for NGOs and community leaders early next year.

Thanks.

Attached is an action plan that was drawn up from the workshop on Climate Change. We have a deadline till the end of December to have more awareness and education activities.

We need information on REDD, examples of voluntary market. What's happening now in PNG is that people have gone into carbon trade without understanding the mechanisms. Besides we do not have a policy in place yet so it our fear that the people out of their ignorance may lose out in the future.

Our campaign message now is not to go into carbon trade as yet until policies are in place and unless the whole business is understood. We are advising people to get more information from the Office of Climate Change which has just been established last month.

Its pretty hard work trying to educate people who have got themselves into the Carbon Trade Business without understanding what it is all about. We would very much appreciate any information brochure/leaflet you have which we can distribute to our partners for the time being. I am also running and awareness education workshop for three days in a community targeting local level government representatives. Basically covering Climate change impacts and the drivers of carbon trade and the situation in PNG.

    Cheers
    Ruth
