Campaign messages to protect nature and our environment, Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone as can be seen on the world map is a small country located on the Western Part of Africa, bounded by Guinea, Liberia and the Atlantic Ocean.

A country that was known for it abundance in natural resources and mostly sufficient pure drinking water, recently experienced for the first time shortage in the supply of water to it inhabitants.

On Wednesday the 24th of June 2009, the City of Makeni located in the Northern part of Sierra Leone experienced one of the very deadliest effect of climate change as heavy storms destroyed fifteen (15) homes and leaving 500 people displaced. Properties were destroyed and families were scattered apart but no death has been confirmed.

This however is how important the campaign on Climate change is and the need to reach the most remote villages with our campaign messages to protect nature and our environment, and also to seek possible legal procedures that will lead to the enactment of laws that will mitigate the massive deforestation and other harmful practices that threatens the survival of our communities.

Makeni is one area that has experienced massive deforestation in the past two years and it has been a concern to the community people but nothing was done to prevent such a situation from happening. As an organization working in that region, we look forward to continue our work in protecting our environments and more so with the support of this forum's resources.
