Iteli Tiatia made a contribution to the Forum on the topic of Early Impacts of Climate Change. Based on this submission, Climate Frontlines provided him with support for a small project to document local observations and understandings of the impacts of climate change on the lives of the people on the island of Savaii, Samoa. Interviews with 15 elders conducted in Samoan during November 2008 focused on three major topics:
-
• the Samoan traditional seasonal calendar;
• winds and breezes of Samoa and tidal behaviors;
• impacts on the environment, as well as the cultural and traditional life of Samoans.
Full report coming soon.
